Raising Funds

The Foundation seeks funds from individual contributors, private foundations and corporate grants. The Sanfilippo Research Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public non-profit organization so gifts are tax deductible under the IRS code.

In an effort to minimize expenses and maximize the funds available directly for research, all fundraising will be done on a volunteer basis and no paid professional fundraisers will be used. As a result, the Foundation will be able to keep operating expenses under 2%.

"Birdies for Ben" - Hosted annually since 1999, this golf event has raised over $500,000, making it our signature event and largest fundraiser.

"Crop for Ben" - Local scrapbook consultants have hosted nine marathon-workshops in Wellesley & Needham, MA to benefit Ben's Dream. This event has raised over $35,000 and has become an annual activity.

"Baseball Bash & BENefit Concert" - One of Ben's old teachers was the driving force behind his baseball team adopting Ben and our cause. The Ben's Dream White Sox play hosts to a charity tournament and concert that has raised over $10,000.

"Run-Ride for Ben" - A number of individuals have completed over 4,070 miles at marathons and rides from coast to coast on behalf of Ben and the Foundation raising over $10,000.

"Cut to Cure" a haircut-a-thon and auction at Lisa James Salon and the "Holiday with Heart" raffle hosted by Trillium Salons in Wellesley, MA raised over $12,000.

"Haunted House & Harvest Festival" co-hosted by Poorman-Douglas and Xerox in Portland, OR raised over $5,000.
In addition to the over $700,000 Ben's Dream has raised for research, we worked cooperatively in the past with the Children's Medical Research Foundation (CMRF), another afflicted family's foundation in Illinois. These collaborative efforts have helped add to the more than $3M in grants that CMRF delivered to researchers and institutions working on a cure.

Success in fundraising this year could help researchers meet their goal of a human clinical trial and pave the way for a healthy future for thousands of children afflicted with genetic disorders.
